This remarkable celebration traces back to 1974 when Emerson Fittipaldi secured McLaren’s first Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship. He was also the youngest driver to become a world champion at the time. During the 1974 season, Fittipaldi clinched three race victories en route to securing the championship.
Teamed with Denny Hulme, they also captured McLaren’s first of eight World Constructors’ Championships, marking a significant milestone in motorsport history. Hulme and Bruce McLaren shared the cockpit in the thrilling eras of both Formula 1 and Can-Am. Together, they were central figures during McLaren’s dominant five-championship-long winning streak, McLaren’s golden era. Hulme kicked off the season in spectacular style, clinching victory at the Argentine Grand Prix. This triumphant start set the pace for McLaren, as he and his team powered their way to securing the World Constructors’ Championship.
