Porsche has earned first place for the second year in a row among premium brands in the latest J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.
Following Porsche’s ranking in the 2024 Initial Quality Study by J.D. Power, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America said, “We are, as a team, proud and grateful to receive this recognition – the result of our relentless commitment to quality and supporting our customer.” Christian Friedl, Vice President of Corporate Quality at Porsche goes on to thank the positive support from customers and adds, “This success is based on a team effort by the entire Porsche team. We are very proud of that.”
About 100,000 new car owners in the US participated in J.D. Power’s 38th edition of the Initial Quality Study, representing over 200 models and more than 30 brands. After using their new vehicles for 90 days, they were surveyed about 227 potential quality issues across ten categories. These categories included aspects such as “interior” and “driving dynamics,” among others.
For Porsche, the data collected by J.D. Power is crucial for enhancing the service and quality of future products. By identifying potential issues early, Porsche can take immediate countermeasures, preventing problems from escalating. The goal is to continuously improve quality and user-friendliness, integrating these improvements from the initial concept phase through the entire product development process to the customer usage phase.
So, what is an Initial Quality Study?
Since 1987, the J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS) has been the benchmark for assessing new vehicle quality in the automotive industry. The enhanced IQS combines cutting-edge vehicle repair data with traditional Voice of the Customer feedback, providing automakers with the tools to quickly identify and address potential issues. This integration of advanced data analytics and customer insights enables manufacturers to proactively tackle problems before they escalate, ensuring higher standards of quality and reliability in the automotive sector. According to J.D. Power, the study examines 227 problems, organized into the following categories.: climate, driving assistance, driving experience, exterior, features/controls/displays (FCD), infotainment, interior, powertrain, and seats.
