The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas is better than ever, featuring enhanced performance, interior, and technology.
Pablo Di Si, president and CEO of Volkswagen American gushed over the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas, adding: “The refreshed Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport continue to build on that success, with an elegant new interior and a sophisticated turbocharged engine that improves both performance and the driving experience.”
The Atlas is known for its generous interior space. It’s one of the largest SUVs in its class, offering ample room for passengers and cargo. And for 2024, the spacious interior of the SUV receives a major upgrade. Additionally, the new headlights and taillights modernize the exterior appearance. Most notably, the new 2.0-liter turbo powertrain replaces the previous four-cylinder and VR6®, bringing better performance and improved fuel economy. Starting MSRP $37,995.

Volkswagen Atlas 2024 Interior
The seven-seater 2024 Volkswagen Atlas SUV is out of this world. It’s obvious that VW had one focus when redesigning the interior: to make it your new comfort zone. The interior boasts significant upgrades: premium materials and standard high-end comfort features, including three-zone Climatronic®, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
The interior upgrades are instantly noticeable. The materials used are far nicer than the previous years, with fewer hard plastics and more stitched leather bits and soft-touch materials on the dashboard. Additionally, upper trim levels have quilted leather upholstery. There is a wide range of trim options including wood, brushed metal, and carbon-fiber-look materials to enhance the textural quality of the door panels.
Spaciousness is key in the new Atlas. VW highlights: “The Atlas makes maximum use of its three-row seating layout to offer space for up to seven adults, boasting a cavernous 154 cu-ft of total passenger volume. Headroom is 41.3/40.4/38.3 inches (first/second/third rows), while legroom is 41.7/37.6/33.7 inches, respectively. Standard second-row bench seating offers a 60/40 split, a 14-degree backrest recline function, and a 7.7-inch sliding range (each side sliding separately). An innovative folding mechanism for the second row offers easy entry and exit room on both sides by enabling the second-row bench to tilt and slide forward, even with child seats in place.”
The seats are upholstered in high-quality materials in every trim level. Standard features include leatherette seating surfaces with heated and ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a height-adjustable passenger seat, and a second-row middle armrest with built-in cup holders.
Engine and Performance
The most notable change in the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas is the engine. Every Atlas model is powered by Volkswagen’s latest and most advanced engine to date – the new “Evo4” 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI® EA888 engine; and the only available engine choice. The previous 3.6-liter VR6 is gone, and this new engine surpasses the outgoing base turbo four in power due to a larger turbocharger and refined tuning.
In 2024, the entire Atlas lineup will be powered with a four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI® engine, delivering 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. VW explains; “The new engine provides similar power to the outgoing VR6, a bump in torque—which is available over a broader rev range, improving drivability and acceleration—and is anticipated to provide improved fuel economy.”
The marque makes it clear that the towing capacity remains the same, at 5,000 pounds. Additionally, an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard in the model. Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is available across the model lineup.
