Driving is one of the most dangerous things you do in your life.

And you rely on your car’s four tires to make contact with the road in order to keep you traveling safely from one place to another.

Here are some tips to help you keep your BMW tires working their best.

Check your tire pressure on a regular basis.

Did you know that your BMW tires can actually lose about one pound per square inch of air (PSI) per month? A tire – BMW or otherwise – can lose even more in cold weather. Think snow and ice. So if you only rely on your auto mechanic to check your tire pressure during oil changes or tire rotations, you could be looking at trouble. Did you know that the leading cause of tire-related crashes is underinflated tires? Those underinflated tires decrease vehicle handling and gas mileage. That, in turn, can lead to premature tread wear and a catastrophic blowout on your tires.  BMW tires – or any tires for that matter – are expensive. So by checking your car’s tire pressure regularly, you can extend the life of your tires. Be sure to check your owner’s manual to gauge the correct tire pressures for your BMW model.

This is important, especially before long road trips. And when you check and keep track of the pressure on your BMW tires also do a physical inspection of your tires. That may mean getting down on your knees but don’t be afraid! You may discover bulges, cracks, and objects like nails that may have punctured the tire. If one of these objects has happened to puncture the sidewall of your tire, your tire will need to be replaced pronto. And if you’re about to take a longer road trip, check your tire pressure and inspect your tires before you pull out of your driveway. Consider the fact that it’s easier to inspect your tires in the safety and comfort of your own driveway or garage than when you are on the side of a busy highway. If you do have a tire failure while driving you can call a tire professional in whatever area you find yourself in that can help change your tire or even replace it. But overall, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Rotate your BMW tires.

To maintain even tread wear and to get the longest life out of your BMW tires, it’s said you should rotate your tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. When you buy a set of tires from your dealership they may offer you free tire rotation. But even if that is not offered, regular tire rotations are fairly inexpensive.

Check the notice on your door frame that tells you the maximum weight your vehicle can handle safely. Did you know that overloading a vehicle is a common cause of tire failure? And when in doubt, carry a spare tire.

And of course, the biggest tip of all: Replace your BMW tires when needed. Driving on worn out tires can cause a tire blowout. Those are deadly at worst and a big pain at the least.

When you replace worn out parts on your luxury vehicle with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts you upgrade performance and keep your luxury and exotic model driving optimally for years or even decades. By using genuine brand name parts that last longer than generic or used parts you also are helping to maintain its resale value.

So, make sure to get your BMW tires inspected, rotated, or replaced at BMW Palm Springs.
