McLaren had an impressive 2016, and the brand’s iconic 570 received five impressive accolades over the past year. The 570S Coupé has been named ‘Best Performance Car’ in the 2016 UK Car of the Year Awards (UKCotY). Since launch, the first model in the Sports Series has received wide-spread praise and won accolades from media the world over. This prestigious award was judged by an independent judging panel of 27 leading UK media and is a significant milestone for the 570S Coupé. The Sports Series will play a key role in increasing global sales during 2016.
On selecting the 570S Coupé as the Best Performance Car of 2016, freelance journalist and UKCotY jury member Richard Bremner commented, “The 570S is McLaren’s best car yet – a sensational blend of all that you want from a supercar, including a drivetrain that’s not overpowered. Easier to live with than many of its rivals, too.’ Fellow juror Simon McBride added: ‘This may be a niche car when it comes to UK sales but that is not the point. The McLaren a masterpiece, it has serious road presence while its head-turning ability is undoubted. This is what makes Britain great – it is an engineering triumph.”
In September, the McLaren 570S Coupé was named Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car for 2016, beating 12 competitors during vigorous testing over the leading US media brand’s Best Driver’s Car Week. This is the 10th major award that the car has received, and from titles across the world.
Motor Trend’s esteemed staff of editors and writers each had a chance to test the 570S and Editor-in-Chief Ed Loh commented, “The McLaren 570S stands out in this year’s crowd of high-horsepower overachievers because it provides a preternatural connection between driver and machine. With massive thrust in a lightweight, mid-engine chassis that can be guided by the fingertips, the 570S is immensely addictive—and the perfect homage to McLaren’s Grand Prix pedigree.”
The vehicle also brought home Robb Report’s Best Sports Car Award, of which Robb Report writers said, “The 570S, the initial model in McLaren’s new entry-level Sports Series, may be the company’s version of a daily driver, but it still offers potent performance, and driving it fast is an addictive activity.” Red Dot awarded the model for its impeccable product design, and Business Insider listed the vehicle as the second runner up for the coveted Car of the Year title.
