The all new Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport is a limited edition, 611 HP all-motor beast priced at $1 million.
The Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport was unveiled this past weekend at Porsche Rennsport Reunion 7. The limited-edition track car was designed to perform even beyond the limits imposed by FIA competition rules. The result is one of the most extreme and focused 911s ever.
Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Motorsport, emphasizes, “It gives you goosebumps whenever you look at it and it combines the finest motorsport technology with a design language that is typical of Porsche. With its exceptional performance, the 911 GT3 R rennsport makes our brand’s history both tangible and audible.”
The 911 GT3 R rennsport harmoniously combines the powerful appearance of a high-performance racing car with modern design elements. Simultaneously, it pays tribute to the sports car manufacturer’s motorsport heritage without pivoting into a retro look.
Elementary performance factors of the original GT3 model, such as air resistance and aerodynamic downforce, remain mostly unchanged. As a purebred racing car, the form of the 911 GT3 R rennsport continues to follow function, but it accomplishes this in an exceptionally emotional and attractive way. This unique collector’s item has been limited to 77 units with prices starting at $1,046,000.
The design offers a distinctive style with powerful charisma and a broad rear end.
Generally speaking, only the bonnet and roof were retained from the standard GT3 R. All other body components of the Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport underwent significant alterations. The design team adopted a substantial portion of the aerodynamically optimized design of the vehicle’s nose, including its cooling air intakes and ducts. Modifications to the rear end possess a notably unique character. The huge rear wing is the most obvious component. Its design pays homage to the iconic Brumos Porsche 935/77.
Thomas Larson, one of the designers of the sports car emphasizes: “The 911 GT3 R rennsport will take its place as the logical successor to the modern Porsche 935. While the 935 was technically based on the near-standard 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, the 911 GT3 R rennsport uses the current 911 GT3 R of the 992 generation as its basis. Beneath the extensively redesigned carbon skin is a thoroughbred racing car.”

The 911 GT3 R rennsport offers an even more powerful engine with a power peak of up to 456 kW (620 PS).
The Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport is based on Porsche’s current GT3 racing car. However, the limited edition model surpasses the stringent demands of motorsport homologation or the constraints imposed by a “Balance of Performance” (BoP).
Porsche gushes: “The 4.2-liter six-cylinder boxer engine of the 911 GT3 R, a power unit that revs up to 9,400 rpm, benefits in particular from the removal of motorsport series restrictions: it achieves power peak of up to 611 hp. This corresponds to a power output of approximately 145 hp per liter. It is thus significantly more powerful than the original power unit, which can develop up to 557 hp in the 911 GT3 R, depending on the BoP rating”
With an engine speed of 9,000 rpm, this 911 model has a top speed that’s approximately 20 kph greater than the shorter FIA-homologated gear ratio of the GT3 R.
