Many Rolls-Royce owners never touch the steering wheel of their automobiles. Instead, someone else does the driving.
But the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost may be turning the driven into drivers thanks to its powerful agility, peerless performance, and unadulterated speed.
It goes without saying the Black Badge Ghost is a creature of beauty filled with over-the-top luxury created to soothe and delight the senses.
But for 2022, the Badge Ghost is even more driver-focused with more engaging gear ratios, and the most responsive and dynamic drive Rolls-Royce has ever achieved.
With the smoothest Magic Carpet Ride sensation ever.
Rolls-Royce calls the Black Badge Ghost a “darker” and more “menacing” version of the original Ghost. It’s one of the most luxurious cars to begin with – with some considerable upgrades layered into its design as part of the 2022 Black Badge model.
So let’s take a look at the five main features that make the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost an amazing cruiser – whether you are driving or being driven. Even by Rolls-Royce standards.
It’s more than just a pretty face.
The Badge Ghost’s powertrain comprises a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. The regular Rolls-Royce Ghost offers an impressive 563 horsepower but the 2022 Rolls-Royce Badge Ghost ups that number to a whopping 591. The Black Badge version can get you from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph, making it 1/10th of a second faster than the “standard” (if there is such a thing) Ghost. As the Motor1 website put it: “In practice, the Ghost Black Badge rockets off the line, with peak torque arriving between 1700 to 4250 rpm. While its torque delivery is nearly identical to that of the standard car, the sporty Low mode and its quick shifts make the Black Badge’s acceleration feel more dramatic when you’ve got your foot in it.” Performance is further boosted by the Black Badge’s exclusive Low mode, a setting that produces full torque at only 1,700 rpm and cuts shift time by half when the pedal is at least 90 percent deployed.

The Magic Carpet Ride is Even More Magic.
The larger air springs of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost improve its suspension, keeping the 5,500-pound ultra-grand tourer stable even around bends. According to the Motor 1 website, which test drove the car, changes to the suspension are imperceptible in the city but show up when you travel along something like a curvy highway. Either way, it remains one of the best rides in the automotive world.
It’s super safe for the whole family.
Even though it’s designed to “live after dark” as Rolls-Royce puts it, the actual seating was designed with kids in mind. But it’s also safe for everybody. Among the safety features: The ABS automatically sense when a tire stops rotating under hard braking and will adjust the brake pressure to allow the tire to rotate. This increases the vehicle’s ability to turn while braking. Stability control automatically senses when the vehicle handling limits have been exceeded and reduces engine power and/or applies select brakes to help prevent the driver from losing control of the vehicle. There are front-impact airbags for the driver and passenger that have been designed to protect the head during a frontal crash. Side impact airbags for the front seats have been designed to protect the torso during a side impact collision. Overhead airbags are used to protect the occupant’s heads in the event of a side collision or rollover. Lastly, knee airbags help to protect the occupant’s lower extremities from serious injury in the event of an accident. There are also a number of high-tech safety features elsewhere in the car.
Ultra-luxury on the inside.
The new edition Black Badge Ghost is filled with carefully selected design elements and some incredible engineering upgrades. It sports a posh yet uncluttered aesthetic that has been termed “post opulent” by the automaker. Bolivar wood makes up the interior trim and special air vent surrounds are darkened through something called “physical vapor deposition.” The clock on the dashboard is minimalist and sleek and has been modified to have a “post opulent” (aka streamlined) look thanks, in part, to a tidy chrome finish. Elsewhere in the cabin, there’s a carbon fiber-like pattern called “technical fiber.”
Starting $395,000, the 2022 Badge Ghost also features touches like a Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament and substantial “Parthenon” grille coated with a special chrome electrolyte and polished by hand to create a black chrome finish as well as 21-inch wheels made with up to 44 layers of carbon fiber for maximum strength and 3D-forged aluminum hub and aerospace-grade titanium fasteners.
