Early trailers for the new Transformers movie – Transformer: Rise of the Beasts – stars a 964-generation Porsche 911 named Mirage.

Mirage is an Autobot in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, who sometimes holds the form of a silver with blue striped 964-generation Porsche 911 from the early ’90s.

The trailer seems to be all about Mirage and its abilities, including transforming.

This iconic looking Autobot has a very good chance of being a key part of the movie thanks, in part, to the fact that he’s voiced by popular comedian Pete Davidson. Expect it to fight, create illusions and turn invisible. (And crack jokes).

Mirage appears to fit into the human story as well. Lead character Noah, played by Anthony Ramos, was seen driving the classic Porsche in the trailer.

At one point it appeared to take over the steering and force him into a police chase.

In fact, Mirage might just be what pulls Noah and some of the other main characters into the battle with the Terrorcons in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Meanwhile, Bumblebee, the fictional main robot character appearing in the Transformers franchise, has become a Chevrolet Camaro again – and is modified into a Camaro Dakar briefly, and a Volkswagen  – microbus is also featured as well as Optimus Prime in the shape of a semi-tractor trailer.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a return “to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world.”

It will “take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure and introduce the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons,” according to Dreamworks, which produced the film.

Steven Caple Jr., who previously directed Creed II, as well as an episode of the Transformers: Earthspark television series, directs the new film.

Transformers movies already had an Autobot that turns into a Porsche, aka Jazz.

Jazz is one of the principal characters in the original Transformers movie who acts as the right-hand of Optimus Prime in the cartoons.

Early reports are that it’s unlikely that the film will use the same car as the disguise for two different Autobots. That means it’s likely Jazz won’t be in the movie in any capacity.

So perhaps Mirage is taking Jazz’s place in the Transformers story?

We think the 964-generation Porsche 911 is the perfect car design for the role.

It’s iconic and retro-cool.

In 1989, the German automaker introduced its latest redesigned 911 – known internally as the Type 964.

Porsche noted that the car was over 85 percent new and it was a bit wider and smoother with signature thermoplastic bumper covers at the nose and tail.

The 964’s famous unibody was fully re-engineered to accept a new all-wheel-drive system developed in the 959 and 961. It became dubbed the Carrera 4.

According to Sotheby’s: “The less-complex rear-wheel-drive Carrera 2 arrived a few months later and would form the base of the 964’s higher-performance and racing derivatives. The first of those was the RS 3.6 of 1992, which was powered by a warmed-up version of the standard twin-plug, normally aspirated 3.6-liter engine. Porsche then upped the ante with its Carrera RS 3.8 for the 1993-1994 model years.”

Power in your hands

The silhouette and racing power of the original lives on today in the 2023 911 Carrera.

The shape of the 911 Carrera is unmistakably a Porsche classic because of its iconic fly line and elegant roof lines. These have characterized Porsche since 1963, as have sports cars with astonishing performance.

The  2023 Porsche Carrera represents the harmonious blending of tradition and modernity—the iconic fly line and the continuous light strip. And then there’s the 911 Carrara T. When contact with the road is even more important. When every pound less means more agility. That’s when sportsmanship takes over.

The 911 Carrera T is a commitment to purism. A conscious release. For increased driving pleasure. After all, it’s the ultimate sports car, the first car most people think of when they hear the name Porsche. Always a thrill to drive and great to look at, this iconic rear-engined fastback is a legend for all times.

In fact, the 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera is the ultimate benchmark for handling, performance, and fun.

The Carrera name – taken from the famous Carrera Panamericana road race – has been used throughout the 911’s history, but more recently it’s come to refer to the ‘standard’ 911s.

The “standard” 911 Carrera is powered by a 379 horsepower 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six. With the “S” version you get more power. As in turbocharger boost pressure takes you all the way up to 640 hp if you so choose. The Carrera 4 brings four-wheel drive. (Turbo models are also four-wheel drive but don’t have the 4 in the name).
