With its beautiful, refined proportions and sensuous yet timeless curves, the Ferrari Roma really is like something out of a Fellini movie. And in fact it’s been said that the Roma actually represents the pleasurable – or “sweet” – way of life that characterized Rome in movies of that era.
This new mid-front-engined 2-plus coupé not only offers distinctive flare and timeless design, it’s simply downright gorgeous. It’s contemporary, sexy and iconic all at the same time.
Although beholding it’s sleek, muscular exterior lines never gets old, the Roma’s beauty is more than skin deep. There’s lots to love about the way this coupé performs. It’s one of several new models that Ferrari promised to have out by this year and we’re excited to take a closer look.
Here’s what we love about the Ferrari Roma so far:
Power. Not only is the Roma a thing of beauty, but it’s also thrilling to drive. Thanks to its turbo-charged 3.9 liter V8 that produces 612 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque you will absolutely feel the power. The engine reaches 620 cv at 7500 rpm and is paired with the new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. You can expect responsive steering as well as precise handling only found in a great car like Ferrari.
Luxury. With its sleek lines inspired by the stylish ‘50s and ‘60s Rome vibe and the grand touring Ferraris of the same era, you can rightly expect those same lines and curves to show up in the interior. The Frau leather interior blends seamlessly with sleek dual cockpit design and form fitting seats that seem to wrap around you and your front passenger, making everyone comfortable on longer drives. Not only is there plenty of comfort but there’s nothing lacking when it comes to infotainment and connectivity.
Speed. You may want to take in the sun-drenched Riviera, a dip in a fountain, cocktails at an outdoor café butt the Roma is also built for driving thrills. It can get from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 199 mph. Prepare yourself for some beautiful sound vibrations as you rev that engine. Ferrari engineers gave much attention to the sound produced by the exhaust system. They even redesigned it to remove any silencers and to add bypass valves to magnify naturally produced notes.
Sophisticated Details. The Roma is “understated luxury” Ferrari style. And it’s a car that is absolutely designed to capture the romance and sophistication of another time and place while remaining thoroughly modern. Extra sharp full-LED adaptive headlights with a horizontal light strip add to the sleek silhouette of the sculpted hood and grille, suggesting that the La Dolce Vita is no longer just a distant dream. Some other features of the Roma we love:
-The rear is muscular with its shoulders wrapped around 20-inch wheels as thin taillights and two sets of dual exhaust pipes denote the Roma’s power while creating a sleek look worthy of La Dolce Vita.
-The dual cockpit includes separate cells for driver and passenger; main commands can be accessed via haptic controls on the newly designed steering wheel.
-The rear window has a built-in spoiler that is flush within the rear of the car and deploys on its own under hard driving conditions to aid with downforce.
-The Roma includes cutting-edge dynamic systems like its Side Slip Control 6.0, with a five-position manettino (steering-wheel-mounted switch), and the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, which controls yaw angle by actuating individual brake calipers.
-With a touch of a button next to the new flush door handle, the Ferrari key allows you to unlock the car effortlessly.
-Lighter components throughout the Ferrari Roma reduce weight and result in a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio.
-A 16-inch digital instrument cluster gives you up to the minute information, and the 8.4-inch vertical touchscreen and a passenger screen, are highly intuitive.
